Native Prairies Association of Texas (NPAT) invites you to an evening of great food, drink, music, AND conversation. This could be the start of something bigger.
Experts from the natural resources, property development, urban planning, working lands, and corporate sectors will share their perspectives on how open space can benefit urban development, followed by a panel discussion.
The evening also supports NPAT’s North Texas outreach, stewardship, and education programs. Director Dr. Carly Aulicky works with local landowners and communities to protect, restore, and appreciate native prairies. Sponsorships are available.

THE QUESTION
How can nature and urban development coexist?
THE CHALLENGE
North Texas is one of the fastest-growing regions in the U.S. On average, 250 acres of rural land PER DAY are lost in Texas to urban development. Natural habitats are fragmented and the species that depend on them are disappearing. Valuable farm and ranch land are taken out of production.
Yet people have been rediscovering the health benefits of nature: physical and mental health, clean air and water, and resilience in a changing climate.
AN ANSWER
Some cities are recognizing the benefits of native biodiversity in urban landscapes and are planning for it. North Texas was dominated by tallgrass prairie – now the rarest ecosystem on earth. Once covering more than 20 million acres in Texas, less than 1% remains today.
Our goal is to forge new connections between entities that often don’t traditionally work together. The reward would be to protect enough well-managed open space to benefit people and wildlife.
Native Prairies Association of Texas is uniquely focused to conserve and restore this rich and imperiled ecosystem. We are working to keep Texas prairie! It’s our natural heritage.
