Partners with Texas Society for Ecological Restoration Conference: Resilience & Connectivity at Our Roots
We attended the TxSER conference in Denton the weekend prior to the America’s Grasslands Conference. The TxSER conference is focused on connecting researchers, practioners, students and academia with current ecological restoration in the state of Texas.
Field trips included a kayak down the Elm Fork of the Trinity River, a visit to the Dixon Water Foundation’s Leo Ranch, and a volunteer opportunity for hands-on restoration work at LLELA (Lake Lewisville Environmental Learning Area).
LLELA hosted a lovely evening BBQ on the prairie, where students were engaged in ‘Young Professionals Round Table’. This activity provided students an opportunity to visit with working conservation and restoration professionals in the government, non-profit, academia, and commercial sectors.
The sessions were packed with research and boots-on-the-ground restoration practice. Undergrad and Grad students participated in a student poster and presentation contest. They were rated on their research and presentation capabilities among other things.
At the Saturday evening award dinner, the winning students in each category won cash prizes! The final session on Sunday was a group discussion of the state of restoration practice. Very lively conversations indeed!
