It’s Seed Collecting Time

It IS hot out there, but this is the time of year when the spring and early summer wildflowers set seed.

I spent Sunday morning with a couple of City of Austin rangers and a handful of hardy volunteers collecting seeds. These will be used for restoration at Indiangrass Wildlife Refuge. There are plans to conduct summer burns in August on this property. Thanks to grant funds, there will be access to a no-till seed drill to add diversity to this property.

Texas bluebells were found blooming at the preserve.
The tall, spindly false gaura is quite lovely close up.
