Fossil Hill Hike on Lake Amon Carter – Western Cross Timbers
Join us on this trip to a prime example of an ancient Western Cross Timbers forest, with prairie openings. Slopes and ridges are covered in numerous Pennsylvanian strata with rocks and gravel at the surface. The topography is hilly, with elevations from 1050 feet at the top of the hill along the ridge, to 920 feet at the lake. On slopes and along ridges lie numerous boulders, carpeted with ferns, mosses and lichens. There are 10 different species of ferns on the property.
