Spring 2023 Prairie Seekers Toolbox Series at the Barnett Ranch

March 25, 2023 @ 9:00 am 3:00 pm

The Fort Worth Chapter of the Native Prairies Association of Texas is pleased to invite you to the next installment of the Prairie Seekers Toolbox Series with field training on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at the Barnett Ranch on the Denton/Wise County line.

Prairie Seekers is a citizen science program that trains volunteers how to assess prairie condition and helps NPAT identify conservation priorities. The workshop on March 25th is the fourth of a five-part series designed to build plant and wildlife identification skills, as well as a deeper understanding and appreciation for the prairie ecosystem. Our special focus this time will be strategies for responsible livestock management as a prairie maintenance tool.

Landowner Skip Barnett will show our group around his heritage ranch which has been under his family’s ownership for over 100 years. It’s been officially recognized as a Designated Family Land Heritage Property by the Texas Department of Agriculture.

The ranch is a beautiful landscape with lush native grass pastures, Fort Worth Prairie seeps, wonderful exposed Cretaceous geology, & prairie barrens. History is plentiful on this ranch as you can still see the wagon ruts of the Chisholm Trail where it once crossed this land. 990 acres of the 1200-acre property have been placed into a conservation easement held by Texas Land Conservancy.

Lunch will be provided thanks to a generous grant. Participants should come prepared for an easy walk over uneven terrain. Weather-appropriate clothing, sunscreen, snacks and water are all recommended.

Workshop fee is $30 plus Eventbrite processing fee. Donations to support the North Texas Outreach & Stewardship Program are also gratefully accepted. We regret that workshop fees and donations are non-refundable – thank you for your support of NPAT!

We hope to see you there!
