March 30 @ 9:00 am 12:00 pm

Rescheduled from March 16 due to weather. Jeff Quayle will be leading an adventurous hike to Lake Mineral Wells State Park to Penitentiary Hollow. Explore the Fringe habitat of Western Cross Timbers on sandstone geology. This will be a moderate hike through Penitentiary Hollow. Hiking boots, long pants and a long sleeve shirt or dressing in layers is preferred, so be prepared for a lot of exploring off of the main trails. Weather permitting. Trees and understory species should be leafing out, so we may be dodging some brush and greenbriar. Be prepared to explore some nook and crannies of the hollows. We will be observing our native ferns in the area and other natives in the park. And a few rare species in the park will be discussed. Meet in the parking lot to the picnic area/Penitentiary Hollow by 10am.
