Enjoy a fascinating step into both ancient history and a commercial model of modern, low impact, land development. The unique field trip starts with a brief walking tour to the top of The Mound ~ Town of Flower Mound’s namesake. Situated on the highest ground between Dallas, Ft Worth, and Denton. The Mound is a spectacular, never been plowed 12.5-acre Blackland Prairie remnant that once blanketed 12 million acres of Texas. Views from atop The Mound offers a vista into the vastness of the Metroplex and a place to reflect upon the past and future.
Next stop on the pre-dinner tour we visit Prairie Commons, a 5-acre mixed-use office and retail complex featuring 100% native prairie landscaping from seed, a 100,000-gallon capacity rainwater harvest system, rain gardens that filter stormwater runoff, and night sky friendly lighting.
Bill Neiman, founder of Native American Seed, will lead the tour. You will be captivated by his deep knowledge of both properties. Diane Wetherbee, Director of The Flower Mound Foundation, will also join to provide additional insight.
The tour starts at 4:00 p.m. and there is no extra cost. If interested, make your selection as you purchase tickets. You will receive more information about the tour logistics within a couple of weeks prior to the event.
