*Special meeting location this month is at Tandy Hills.

Rachel Richter & Sam Kieschnick, Urban Biologists for the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, & Bruce Benz, Chair of the Biology Department at Texas Wesleyan University will lead the iNaturalist training in preparation for Tandy Hills BioBlitz (April 22-23). We are hoping to have a good showing of NPAT volunteers at the BioBlitz – & this will be a great opportunity to make sure you have all the skills needed.

The in-the-field training will be a hands-on experience – where Sam and Rachel will take participants through specific steps of the iNaturalist program by actually taking photos, identifying the biota & uploading the information to the iNaturalist system.  After sundown (about 8 p.m.), the event will move to the nearby Tandy House, where Sam & Rachel will show how the iNaturalist website can be used in combination with the smartphones & cameras.  Refreshments will be served there.

In preparation for the event, please download the iNaturalist app on your smartphone – & get an account & login to it.  Everyone who has a camera should also bring it, along with your smart phone.  And if you want to bring your laptops, that’s great, too – we’ll be learning how to upload pictures from our cameras in the second part of the session, after sundown, when we all walk (or drive) the short distance to the Tandy House.
