NPAT’s Chapters’ Monthly Meet-ups

Monday, Apr 24, 2017

NPAT’s Chapters’ monthly meet ups and events offer opportunities to learn and exchange ideas on our roles in TEXAS PRAIRIE RESTORATION and PRESERVATION!

Listen to talks presented by dedicated and highly-qualified individuals serving your area: county and municipal agents working in water conservation, native vegetation, habitat restoration, ecological practices; people whose knowledge of practices will benefit landowners, nature conservationists, wildlife experts, and others dedicated to sharing knowledge - for the future of our great prairies!

ANNUAL PRAIRIE BUS TOURS

NPAT’s Blackland Chapter in Dallas devotes a great deal of time planning annual bus tours in different areas of Texas. They are planned in early June; arrangements are made with the prairie landowners. This event is EXTREMELY POPULAR, anxious tourists are given opportunities to walk the prairies. NPAT encourages all participants to come prepared and bring their cameras.  They are gracious to share photos. A Prairie Tour Photo Gallery is in the works.  Monitor Blackland NPAT Chapter website as well as this website for details. We hope you’ll join us in June!

News & Events Page provides details of NPAT activities in chronological order.

RESUMING 8-18-2018 3rd SATURDAY PRAIRIE RESTORATION WORKDAYS
AUGUST 18, SEPTEMBER 15, and OCTOBER 20, 2018.
at Kirchoff Family Farm.
Sponsored by the San Antonio Chapter of the Native Prairies Association of Texas (SANPAT)
Arrive at or before 8am and leave when you’re ready.

We’ll email invitations with a link to register (so we’ll know how many lunches to prepare) with the location, driving instructions, and a contact phone number in case you need assistance.

Volunteers meet on the Kirchoff Prairie; early morning arrivals may be treated to a beautiful sunrise, blazing cacti flowers, fluttering butterflies, or bird calls from bob white quail!
Work alongside the Kirchoff siblings, Don, Scott, and Brenda, learn and observe while listening to songbirds!  We will work on activities such as:
Cutting invasive woody plants and treating stumps; bagging and/or collecting milkweed capsules; transplanting milkweed or other pollinator seedlings; picking up and stacking woody plants; collecting native seeds (frequent activity in summer and fall months); processing native seeds; and other prairie tasks. Depending on the season, volunteers may bag milkweeds, collect the bags, process opened seed capsules, and/or plant seeds – some in trays or directly to the prairie; in summer & fall volunteers may collect and process a variety of pollinator plants & grasses.
Lunch and refreshments are provided by the Kirchoff Family in appreciation of your helping them restore their prairie!
Work for a bit longer if you’d like; leave when you’re ready.
Thanks for supporting NPAT and the restoration efforts of the Kirchoff Family!
