Prairie Facts

Today the tallgrass prairies of Texas are very rare. Less than 1% of the original 20 million acres of Texas’ beautiful tallgrass prairie remains and losses are still occurring to plowing, improper overgrazing, and development.

Fundraising Campaign for Travis Country has Been Renewed!

The fundraising campaign for the 12.45 acre Travis Country remnant Live Oak Savanna has been renewed. The remnant, located in the center of this West Austin neighborhood, is a prime outdoor teaching area and nature preserve.  It is covered with native grasses, heritage oaks, wildlife habitat, and lies in the Barton Springs segment of the Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone.

Many people pledged in the previous campaign, but more funds are needed to purchase this property outright and prevent future commercial or residential development. Please consider pledging your support today to conserve this great example of a remnant savanna in Central Texas for future generations!
