Riesel Prairie Description

Size: 5 acres Ownership: Owned by NPAT. Donated by Dr. Paul and Virginia Mezynski. Dr. Paul and Virginia Mezynski protected Riesel Prairie permanently for future generation by donating the prairie to NPAT. Dr. Paul Mezynski is a past president of NPAT. Riesel Prairie is a tallgrass prairie remnant of the Blackland Prairie. Texas' Blackland Prairie is part of the endangered tallgrass prairies of North America, of which less than 1% remains due to conversion to agriculture and development. Little Bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium), Big Bluestem (Andropogon gerardii), and Indiangrass (Sorghastrum nutans) are dominant grasses.
